Questions answered
Everything you might want to know before booking. If anything isn't covered here, we're always happy to talk it through.
No. You can book directly with us without a referral from your GP or any other professional. Our service is self-referral, which means you can start the process today without needing anyone else's permission or involvement.
Uncertainty is very common, and it is absolutely fine to come to an assessment without knowing what the outcome will be. That is the whole point. A comprehensive assessment is designed to explore your experiences properly and reach a clear, evidence-based conclusion, whether that is a diagnosis of ADHD or a thorough explanation of what might be going on instead.
If you would like to explore things a little before committing, our free screening tool is a useful starting point, and you are always welcome to book a free consultation call to talk things through first.
Yes, absolutely. ADHD is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition, and many adults reach their 30s, 40s, or beyond before receiving a diagnosis. It is very common for people to have developed coping strategies over the years that mask the difficulties, or to have been told they were simply disorganised, anxious, or not trying hard enough.
An adult diagnosis can be genuinely life-changing. Understanding why you have struggled in certain areas can bring a great deal of clarity, reduce self-criticism, and open up practical options for support and treatment.
We assess adults aged 18 and over. There is no upper age limit. Whether you are in your 20s or your 60s, if you have concerns about ADHD, we would be happy to help.
Yes. If you have concerns about a previous assessment, or feel that your difficulties were not fully explored, you are welcome to book. It would be helpful to share any previous reports or information you have so we can take these into account. Our assessment is thorough and independent.
We have made a deliberate decision not to register as a Right to Choose provider. Right to Choose is an NHS England scheme that allows patients to request assessment through certain approved private providers, funded by the NHS. While this route works well for some people, registering as a provider comes with significant administrative requirements, reporting obligations, and constraints on how assessments are structured and delivered.
We believe that remaining fully independent allows us to conduct assessments on our own terms, without compromise. It means we can take the time each assessment genuinely requires, use the tools we believe are clinically best, and maintain the quality and depth that we are proud of. We are not able to accept NHS funding or process Right to Choose referrals, but we are transparent about our costs and offer a split payment structure to help make the assessment as accessible as possible.
The assessment has several components, all of which are included in the fee. You will start by completing a set of background questionnaires in your own time, covering your current symptoms, mood, and history. You will also complete QbCheck, a computerised continuous performance test that provides an objective measure of attention and impulsivity.
The main assessment is a comprehensive clinical interview lasting approximately 1.5 hours, conducted via Google Meet. This is not a tick-box exercise. We will explore your developmental history, how difficulties have presented across different areas of your life, your strengths and challenges, and any other factors that might be relevant. It is thorough, unhurried, and tailored to you.
Following the interview, you will receive a detailed written report and a dedicated feedback session to walk you through the findings.
QbCheck is a validated computerised test that measures attention, impulsivity, and activity level objectively. Unlike questionnaires, which are based on self-report, QbCheck provides a performance-based measure that adds an important objective dimension to the clinical picture.
It is one of a small number of tools validated for use in adult ADHD assessment in the UK, and its inclusion means your assessment goes beyond what many providers offer. The cost of QbCheck is included in the assessment fee with no additional charge.
We will send you a set of background questionnaires to complete at home before your appointment. These cover your current ADHD symptoms, but also broader aspects of your mental health and wellbeing, including mood and anxiety. This matters because a thorough assessment is not simply a tick-box exercise for ADHD. We are looking at your full picture, including any other factors that might explain or contribute to your experiences.
This kind of differential assessment is what distinguishes a rigorous clinical process from a simpler symptom checklist. The questionnaires are straightforward and most people complete them within 30 to 45 minutes.
As part of any thorough ADHD assessment, we screen for autism as part of the differential diagnostic process. This is simply good clinical practice. ADHD and autism frequently co-occur, and many of their features overlap, which means a responsible assessment must consider both in order to reach an accurate conclusion.
However, this screening does not constitute a full, comprehensive autism assessment. A standalone autism assessment is a separate and distinct process that goes considerably beyond what is covered in an ADHD assessment. If, following your assessment, there are clinical indications that a full autism assessment would be appropriate, we will discuss this with you and signpost you towards the right pathway.
If you are specifically seeking an autism diagnosis rather than, or in addition to, an ADHD assessment, please get in touch before booking so we can advise you on the most appropriate next step.
Collateral information from someone who knows you well can be a helpful part of the assessment, particularly when exploring how difficulties have presented across your life and from the perspective of others. We may ask whether you have a family member, partner, or close friend who would be willing to provide a brief account of their observations.
However, this is not always essential, and the assessment can be completed without it. We will discuss this with you at the appropriate stage.
From booking to receiving your final report, the process typically takes a matter of weeks rather than months. You can book your appointment slot today and, once the questionnaires and QbCheck are complete, your clinical interview will take place at your chosen time.
We aim to deliver your written report within two weeks of the interview, often sooner. We do not compromise on quality or thoroughness in order to meet timescales, but our aim is always to move efficiently so you have answers as quickly as possible.
The clinical interview is approximately 1.5 hours. We will take you through your developmental history, how symptoms have presented across different areas of your life including work, relationships, and education, and explore the broader context of your experiences. We go at your pace and the session is conducted in a relaxed, supportive environment.
Yes. The clinical interview and feedback session are conducted via Google Meet, meaning there is no travel, no time off work for commuting, and no need to attend a clinic. You can complete your assessment from the comfort and privacy of your own home, wherever you are in the UK. You will need a stable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone, and a quiet, private space.
Your assessment will be conducted by Dr Alex Hull from start to finish. Dr Hull is an HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist with over 12 years of experience, including extensive specialist experience in ADHD assessment and neurodevelopmental conditions. There are no handoffs to junior staff or other clinicians. You work with the same person throughout.
Yes. Our assessment follows and exceeds the NICE guidelines for ADHD (NG87), which are the nationally recognised standards for diagnosing and managing ADHD in the UK. This means the process is clinically robust, evidence-based, and thorough.
Yes. Because our assessment is NICE compliant and conducted by an HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist, the diagnosis and report should be accepted by your GP, NHS services, and other healthcare providers. Our report is formatted specifically to meet the standards GPs expect, making it straightforward for them to act on.
If you have any concerns about a specific context, such as accessing NHS medication or a particular service, we are happy to discuss this before you book.
Yes. Many clients use their report to access reasonable adjustments at work, support at university, or accommodations in professional examinations. The report includes a clear diagnostic conclusion and practical recommendations that employers and educational institutions can act on. The report is yours and you can share it with whoever you choose.
The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is the statutory regulator for clinical psychologists in the UK. Only practitioners who meet strict standards of training, competence, and professional conduct can be registered and use the protected title of Clinical Psychologist. This registration is publicly verifiable and provides an important layer of protection and accountability for clients.
Not all ADHD assessors are HCPC registered. Choosing a regulated clinician matters for the quality, validity, and defensibility of your assessment.
Yes. Clinical psychologists are fully qualified to diagnose ADHD. This is a common misconception — many people assume that only psychiatrists can give a diagnosis, but ADHD diagnosis falls squarely within the scope of practice of HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologists in the UK.
In many respects, clinical psychologists are exceptionally well placed to assess ADHD. Our training spans seven or more years and includes a doctoral-level qualification, with in-depth study of neurodevelopmental conditions, differential diagnosis, cognitive assessment, and psychological formulation. We are trained to distinguish ADHD from other conditions that can look similar — such as anxiety, depression, autism, and sleep disorders — and to understand how these conditions interact when they co-occur.
Psychiatrists, by contrast, are medically trained and have specialist expertise in prescribing medication. If medication is something you wish to pursue after a diagnosis, we can support you in accessing this through your GP or a psychiatrist under a shared care arrangement. The diagnosis itself is equally valid regardless of whether it comes from a psychologist or a psychiatrist.
Choosing a clinical psychologist for your assessment means you benefit from a rigorous, formulation-led approach that places your experience and history at the centre — not just a symptom checklist.
The total cost is £900, which is all-inclusive. This covers everything: the pre-assessment questionnaires, QbCheck, the clinical interview, the feedback session, and the full written report. There are no hidden extras or add-on fees.
An initial payment of £500 is due at the time of booking. The remaining £400 is due before the feedback appointment, which also secures the release of your written report and QbCheck report.
A comprehensive ADHD assessment involves significantly more than a single appointment. The fee covers the cost of QbCheck, which is an expensive validated assessment tool, as well as the clinician time involved in reviewing questionnaires, conducting a thorough clinical interview, writing a detailed report, and delivering a feedback session. Considerable preparation and follow-up work takes place around the interview itself.
We would encourage you to compare what is included elsewhere. Many assessments at similar or higher price points do not include QbCheck, a feedback session, or a report of equivalent depth.
If you need to reschedule, please let us know as soon as possible and we will do our best to accommodate you. We understand that circumstances can change.
Refunds are not available once the assessment process has begun, which we define as the point at which questionnaires have been sent or QbCheck has been issued. This is because many of the costs are incurred before the clinical interview takes place. If you cancel before any assessment activity has started, a full refund will be provided.
The fee is split into two payments: £500 at the time of booking and £400 before the feedback appointment. This is designed to spread the cost across the assessment process rather than requiring payment in full upfront.
Payment is processed securely through Stripe, which supports a wide range of payment methods including all major credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and bank transfers. You can choose whichever method you are most comfortable with. If you have any questions about the payment process, please get in touch and we will be happy to help.
A comprehensive assessment is valuable regardless of the outcome. If ADHD is not the explanation for your difficulties, a thorough assessment will still provide a clear clinical picture of what is going on, including whether another condition or set of factors may be more relevant. This information can be just as useful in pointing you towards the right support.
We will always explain our reasoning clearly and make recommendations for next steps whatever the outcome.
Your report is detailed and comprehensive. It covers the background and reason for referral, the assessment methods used, a summary of the clinical interview findings including your developmental history and current presentation, the QbCheck results, the diagnostic conclusion with clinical reasoning, and practical recommendations for next steps. It is written to a standard that is accepted by GPs, employers, educational institutions, and prescribing clinicians.
We aim to provide your written report within two weeks of your clinical interview, and often sooner. The report is released following your feedback session and the completion of your final payment.
Yes. The report is your property and you may share it with whoever you choose, including your GP, employer, university, prescribing clinician, or any other professional. We retain a copy securely for our clinical records.
We understand that an unexpected or unwanted outcome can be difficult to receive. We will always be able to explain the findings clearly and set out the evidence base that informed our conclusions. The feedback session is specifically designed to give you the opportunity to ask questions and understand exactly what the assessment found and why.
If you have concerns or feel that something has not been adequately addressed, we are always happy to take the time to talk things through with you and work through any questions you may have. Your understanding and wellbeing matter to us, and we will not leave you without a clear explanation and a sense of what your next steps might be.
ADHD Resolve does not prescribe medication directly. However, we work with specialist prescribing partners who will accept and act upon a diagnosis made as part of your assessment. If you would like to explore medication following your diagnosis, your report can be passed to them and they will be able to progress that process without delay. You will always have the choice of whether to pursue this, and you can also take your report to your GP or any other clinician of your choosing.
Your feedback session is an important part of this. We will walk you through your results and discuss what the diagnosis means for you, including practical next steps. These might include exploring medication through a prescribing partner, making adjustments at work or in your studies, accessing therapeutic support, or simply understanding yourself and your experiences better.
We will make recommendations tailored to your situation, and you are welcome to come back to us with questions after you have had time to reflect.
Yes. If following your assessment you would like to explore therapeutic support, this is something we can discuss. We are happy to talk through what might be helpful for you and whether we can assist or point you in the right direction.
Yes. All information you share during the assessment process is held in strict confidence. Your personal and clinical data is stored securely in accordance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. It will not be shared with third parties without your consent, except in the circumstances described below.
As part of safe clinical practice, we have a professional obligation to notify your GP of the outcome of your assessment. This is standard practice for regulated clinicians and ensures continuity of your care, particularly if medication or further support is recommended. By proceeding with the assessment, you are consenting to this. In rare circumstances where there is a serious risk of harm to yourself or others, we may also be required to share information without consent. We would always aim to discuss this with you first wherever possible.
All personal information and clinical records are held securely and in full compliance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Your data is used only for the purposes of your assessment and ongoing care.
We maintain availability so that you do not face a long wait. In most cases, you can book your assessment slot today and be seen within a matter of weeks. There is no waiting list in the way you would experience through NHS routes.
You will need a device with a camera and microphone (a laptop, tablet, or smartphone will all work), a stable internet connection, and a quiet, private space where you will not be interrupted. We will send you a Google Meet link ahead of your appointment. No software download is required as Google Meet runs in your browser.
If you experience any technical problems on the day of your appointment, please contact us as soon as possible and we will do our best to resolve the situation promptly, including rescheduling if necessary. We understand that technology does not always cooperate and we will always try to be as flexible as possible.
You are welcome to have a trusted person with you for support during the appointment. Please let us know in advance if this is something you would like, as it is helpful for us to be aware. There may be parts of the interview where we ask to speak with you alone in order to ensure a full and open exploration of your experiences, but we will always discuss this with you sensitively.
It is completely understandable to feel nervous, particularly when discussing personal experiences or difficulties. The assessment is conducted in a warm, supportive, and non-judgmental environment. We go at your pace, and if you need a break at any point you just need to say so. There is nothing you can say or share that will be met with anything other than understanding.
In the unlikely event that you are unhappy with any aspect of our service, please contact us directly so we can discuss your concerns. We take all feedback seriously and will always aim to resolve any issues promptly and fairly. If you feel your concern has not been adequately addressed, you have the right to raise a formal complaint with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
